Betty McConnell

    Betty M. (Briggs) McConnell, 94, died July 6, 2018, at Life Care Center of Greeley. She was born April 13, 1924, to James Claude and Bessie (Jones) Briggs on the family farm near Holyoke. She attended school in Holyoke, graduating from Phillips County High School in 1942.
    Betty married Everett L. McConnell on June 3, 1945, at the Holyoke Methodist Church. To this union, two children were born: Virginia M. and Lee W. Betty and Everett lived most of their married life in Haxtun until retirement took them to Mesa, Arizona. Everett passed away in Phoenix, Arizona, Aug. 28, 2007.
    While living in Haxtun, Betty was very active in the American Legion Auxiliary and Colorado Columbine Girls State. She was a member of the Haxtun Methodist Church and Haxtun Women’s Club, and she worked at the Housing Authority for several years.
    Betty is survived by her daughter, Virginia Lagergren of La Junta; grandchildren, Dawn and Leon Berry and their five children, son-in-law and granddaughter, Denise and Steven Balicki and their two sons, and Eric and Katie Lagergren and their five children, all of La Junta; son, Lee McConnell of Windsor; daughter-in-law, Melva Scarrow of Greeley; grandchildren, Michael and Martina McConnell and their son, Leesa and Ted Beckman and their four children, Casey and Jayme McConnell and their three children, all of Greeley, and Kellee and Aaron Anderson and their daughter of Aspen; brother, James and Beverly Briggs of Apache Junction, Arizona; sister, Maxine and Keith Stegall of Leadville; sister-in-law, GayeBeth Briggs of Copeland, Kansas; brother-in-law, Harold and Dorothy McConnell of Haxtun; and many nieces and nephews.
    Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Everett; brothers, Willard Briggs and Robert Briggs; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Pauline and Bud Koberstein; son-in-law, Donald Lagergren; and great-great-granddaughter, Tiner Grace.
    Betty will be buried beside her husband at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver (staging area A) on Monday, July 30, at noon.
