FFA banquet celebrates good year

    Holyoke FFA ended the school year with its 87th annual banquet and awards ceremony Tuesday, May 1, at Holyoke High School.
    Adviser Shauna Brown recognized the five FFA seniors — Taylor Hendrix, Kaitlyn Kent, Tobin Moore, Holden Redman and Rebecca Owens — and each of them gave retiring speeches.
    The Dekalb Award, presented annually to a senior, was awarded to Owens. She and Hendrix were the recipients of the FFA Alumni Scholarships, and Hendrix was named this year’s Outstanding Officer.
    Other major awards included Outstanding Junior, Brenna Sullivan; Outstanding Sophomore, Tristen Roll; Star Greenhand, Lauren Bergner; Oustanding Member, Tristen Roll; and Most Improved Member, Trent Huffman.
    Honorary Chapter FFA Degrees were awarded to community members Julie Elliott and Minda Mares, and local businesses presented with Blue and Gold Awards included Happy Jacks Barbeque and Seaboard Foods for their support of the Holyoke chapter.
    Additional awards were Star Chapter Farmer, Alex Vieselmeyer; Holyoke FFA Star in Placement, Tristen Roll; Leadership Award, Corben McCallum; Ag Mechanics, Erick Marroquin, Caleb Deaver and Kaitlyn Kent; state gold in Beef Production Entrepreneurship, Hendrix; state winner in Agriculture Sales Entrepreneurship, Hendrix; and Supervised Agricultural Experience Breeding Grant, Bergner.
