FFA/ FCCLA service sale raises $16K

A total of 210 community members showed their support of Holyoke High School’s FFA and FCCLA members at the annual service sale Feb. 19. Between the meal and auction, the chapters raised $16,058.
The HHS old gym was transformed for the occasion, with tables set in FFA blue and FCCLA red. Students were sold one at a time. As they stepped into the corral panel-lined “sale ring,” each member’s picture and information appeared on a giant projector screen, as they were announced by auctioneer Josh Larson. Bidding for each student began at $100 and went up in increments of $25.
FCCLA sold 14 members at an average of $227.50 per member. The chapter’s highest selling member was Dominque Penzing for $350. FFA sold 33 members at an average of $254.39. The highest selling student was Rebecca Owens for $550. Included in the averages were $10 per student donated by Vieselmeyer Seed and $5 per student donated by Powell Seed.
