Velma Wettstein

    Velma Marie Wettstein was born in Holyoke on Dec. 17, 1942. She died Jan. 21, 2018, at her home at Carriage House in Holyoke.
    Velma graduated from Holyoke High School, and after graduating she attended Bernal Cosmetology College in Fort Collins. Upon receiving her license, she returned to Holyoke and went to work for Ardie at Ardie’s Beauty Barr. Later she and her sister Frances bought the Sweet Shop, which they operated for several years. In 1985, she returned to Ardie’s Beauty Barr, where she worked for 30-plus years.
    Velma loved playing cards, and she even taught Pastor Jeremiah one of her card games. He always seemed to win every time.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, Lyle Wettstein and Margaret Gulley; and sister, Thelma Hackney.
    She is survived by her brothers, Gene Wettstein of Kailua Kona, Hawaii, and David Gulley and wife Lori of Brush; sister, Frances Muths and husband Jim of Holyoke; and many other relatives and friends.
    A memorial service was held Jan. 30 at First Baptist Church in Holyoke, with Pastor Jeremiah Krieger officiating. Inurnment followed the service at the Holyoke Cemetery.
    Memorial contributions may be made to Melissa Memorial Hospital.
    Baucke Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
