Bands share sounds of the season
Director Chris Lampkin and instrumentalists in grades 5-12 presented “Sounds of the Season” at their Thursday, Dec. 14, concert at the Holyoke High School auditorium.
“Prelude” kicked off the evening with a flute quintet made up of Rylee Schneller, Kylie Purkeypile, Keegan Shaw, Lali Marquez and Lampkin.
The fifth-grade band played “Au Clair de Lune,” “Lightly Row” and “Jingle Bells.”
Selections performed by the sixth-graders included “Good King Wenceslas,” “Jolly Old St. Nick,” “Sweetly Sings the Donkey” and “Midnight Sky.” Junior Jillian Hunter assisted in conducting the sixth-grade band.
Junior highers in the Holyoke concert band played “Udala’m (A Nigerian Carol);” “The Sgt. Major March” with soloists Marco Mendoza, Summer Martin and Tamara Penzing; and “The Tempest.”
Next up was the high school wind ensemble with “Peace Jubilee;” “Rippling Watercolors” with soloists Marisa Roman, Trey Bennett and Katy Kliber Voigt; and “Celebration for Winds and Percussion” including soloists Hunter, Peter Betley, Emali Torres, Marquez, Julia Pagola and Bennett.
The concert band and wind ensemble combined for the finale of the concert: “A Christmas Trilogy.”
