HJHS robotics team competes at NJC

    Twelve teams competed Oct. 28 at the Golden Plains BEST Robotics competition at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling. Holyoke’s junior high team placed ninth in the morning seeding round and advanced to the wildcard match but did not make it to the semifinals.
    BEST — Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology — Robotics is a nationwide competition designed to engage and excite students, inspiring them to pursue careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math.
    Representing HJHS on Saturday were Diego Jimenez, Johny Quintana, Jimena Nuñez, Cooper Goldenstein, Max Kleve, Baylor Struckmeyer and Tristen Ferguson, with their adviser, math teacher Jimmy French. Also on the team but not at the competition was Tyson Owens.
    For the past six weeks, students have designed, built and programmed a robot during lunch periods and after school.
