Students of the Month

     Students of the Month for September at Holyoke JR/SR High School have been named. They are senior Yemileth Ruiz, nominated by ESL teacher Allie Balog, and seventh-grader Ashton Robles, nominated by language arts teacher Heather Bieber.
     Ruiz’s nomination letter read, “This year, Yemi has been more than a blessing to my classroom, especially my 6th-hour class. She has stepped up and translated and supported the English learners. She sits with students that struggle and explains the concept to them and ensures that they understand so that I am able to help the other students in class. Yemi understands the trials and tribulations of these students because she was once the one sitting in the seat needing help. She has gained the knowledge of the routine and expectations of my classroom and helps enforce them throughout the class period. I truly do not know where I would be or our newcomers would be without her support and kindness.”
     Robles’ letter read, “Ashton Robles is a student who represents RISE in the classroom daily. He comes to class with a positive attitude and is always respectful to everyone in the room. Ashton has assumed a leadership role in his small group by guiding discussion and keeping members on task. He is patient and sincere with his classmates, and fellow seventh graders know they can ask him for assistance if I am working with another student. Ashton’s responsibility and positive interactions with his peers are clear examples of RISE and make him a worthy recipient of Student of the Month.”
