Car seats to be inspected at Saturday checkpoint

Holyoke Police Department, in cooperation with Northeast Colorado Health Department and Colorado State Patrol, will be conducting a Child Safety Seat Checkpoint at the Holyoke Municipal Building located at 407 E. Denver St. Saturday, May 20, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
Child car seats will be inspected for safety and proper installation. Old or defective child seats can also be brought to the checkpoint for recycling.
Holyoke Police Department, Holyoke Volunteer Fire Department and the Holyoke ambulance will have equipment on display and available for tours.
Dozers Games will be there with free video games and other games to play.
Hot dogs, snacks and coloring pages will also be available.
In the United States, motor vehicle injuries are the leading cause of death among children. Many of those deaths can be prevented by proper use of safety restraints for children (and adults). In 2014, more than 121,350 children were injured in motor vehicle crashes.
In Colorado, the seat belt overall usage average is 84 percent, compared to the national average of 90 percent.
Holyoke Police Department has received a Colorado Department of Transportation grant to fund enforcement of safety restraints and will be strictly enforcing Colorado seat belt laws throughout the summer.
