Phillips Co. Raceway to open Sunday

Sunday, May 7, at 5 p.m., with fair weather predicted, the racing season will begin at Phillips County Raceway at the fairgrounds in Holyoke.

Weather and other circumstances have forced postponement of the season opener for PC Raceway no less than four times since the originally scheduled March 25 races. Organizer Joe Bellm of BST Promotions is optimistic that the dirt will fly and races will run this weekend.

Test, tune and tech laps will be conducted starting at 3 p.m. Sunday, with racing to begin at 5 p.m.

For the season opener, late models and dwarfs will join the five IMCA divisions that will be featured at every race day — modifieds, sport mods, stocks, hobby stocks and compacts.

A coupon for a reduced-price ticket for Sunday’s races may be found in an advertisement in this week’s paper.

As a result of the multiple race day postponements, the original race schedule for PC Raceway has been completely revamped.

Following Sunday’s season opener, the rest of the PCR season schedule includes:
—Sunday, May 28, 5 p.m. — Memorial Day Race, including dwarf state race.
—Friday, June 16, 7:30 p.m. — IMCA Racesaver CAT tour sprint cars.
