Vehicle pursuit ends in arrest

On May 23, at approximately 8:18 p.m., an officer of the Holyoke Police Department attempted to stop a motorcycle for registration and equipment violations near the intersection of Denver Street and High School Avenue. When the officer activated his emergency lights, the motorcycle rapidly accelerated away from the officer, eastbound on East Denver Street. A vehicle pursuit of the subject was initiated by Holyoke Police Department, which continued eastbound toward Imperial, Nebraska.

During the pursuit, the suspect, identified as Kenneth Johnston of Lamar, Nebraska, was operating at high speeds and driving in a reckless manner in order to evade law enforcement. During the pursuit, Johnston departed the roadway through a field near the intersection of Phillips County Road 43 and U.S. Highway 6. He continued at high speeds through the field and lost control of the motorcycle, resulting in a crash.
