HHS Boys State and Girls State delegates report back on their program experiences

Four incoming seniors at Holyoke High School had the honor of attending American Legion Colorado Boys State June 4-10. Drew Stewart, Brandon Nevarez, Luke Krogmeier and Jarrett Woodhead were sponsored by American Legion Post 90 for the conference held at Colorado State University-Pueblo.

After returning from the week-long event, the four reported on their experiences, expressing their gratitude to the American Legion for providing the opportunity.

Drew Stewart was elected by his fellow Boys State participants to the city council. He also ran for lieutenant governor and made it to the general election.

“It was a great experience all around,” he said. In addition to learning a lot about legislature, Stewart noted he enjoyed meeting the other high schoolers in attendance.

Also in attendance was Brandon Nevarez who was appointed city engineer.
