Webinars Nov. 28 on diabetes and generational links

Has a parent, grandparent or close relative been diagnosed with diabetes? What does that mean for a family member? Is it cause for concern? In a two-part series, the public can learn about the genetics and generational impacts of diabetes from Ali Burtraw and diagnosis and care of Type 1 diabetes from Cara Draegert on Tuesday, Nov. 28, at noon and 5:30 p.m. for the last of the 2017 series of the diabetes webinars offered in northeast Colorado.
Burtraw is Colorado Plains Medical Center’s newly named in-house registered dietitian. A Wisconsin native, she received her education and degree from Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Burtraw joined Colorado Plains in July 2017 and has extensive knowledge on Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes and dietary management.
During the webinar, Burtraw will discuss the genetics of diabetes and how that differs between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. She will also explore generational and inherited traits of the disease.
In addition, there will be an evening webinar focusing on Type 1 diabetes, facilitated by Draegert, covering from the moment of diagnosis to care and management best practices. Draegert is the WorkPoint Wellness corporate health consultant for Colorado Plains Medical Center in Fort Morgan. Beyond her work at the hospital, Draegert is the mother and main caregiver to her son who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 5 — almost 11 years ago.
