Walking into the High Plains Picker showroom feels something like an “I Spy” game. The eye is drawn quickly from vintage sporting equipment to Depression glass to old farm pieces to signs. Ryan Blumenstein is pictured with some of the treasures. — Johnson Publications

Vintage treasures ripe for the picking

While Ryan Blumenstein set up his new business over the past year, he mostly flew under the radar — much like the majority of his wares. High Plains Picker, located in a quonset at 20970 County Road 41, has an ever-changing selection of antiques and vintage goods for sale, most of which were salvaged from farms and estates in the northeastern Colorado area.
Now the store is up and running and ready for the spotlight. The gallery is open Monday-Saturday from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. If the door’s locked, Blumenstein encourages shoppers to give him a call at 970-231-7011 as he’s probably just outside working on his latest project.
The entire store shows Blumenstein’s passion for restoring, reusing and repurposing things many people have forgotten. Aside from the computer and phone, there’s not a new thing in his office. From the walls themselves to the coffee pot and cup he drinks from to the decor that makes the space his own, that place has history.
Much of what’s on display in the showroom is turn of the century and mid-century modern. At the moment, items include such things as toys, tools, sports equipment, Depression glass, crocks and crates, but the only way to fully appreciate the huge variety is to see it firsthand.
The best part? The stock is always changing. In addition to the store, Blumenstein’s business includes a property cleanup and salvage service. He recognizes that many people don’t have the time or energy to deal with an old building on their property that’s just in the way.
