Locals compete at 114th National Western Stock Show

The 114th National Western Stock Show in Denver is touted as the “Best 16 Days in January,” and some locals were able to get in on some of the action.

Cash Weber placed eighth in the market show with his steer.

Colby Weber won his class with a prospect steer.

Lucinda Mares showed two goats that placed fifth and sixth in their classes.

Cash Weber and Mares were also chosen to participate in Colorado FFA Foundation’s Meat and Greet program last November. Their buyers from that event got to watch their progress along the way and were offered a behind-the-scenes look at the kids’ stock show experiences. If the animals did not qualify for the stock show sale, the kids got to keep 70% of what they sold for in November, and the rest went to the Colorado FFA Foundation to continue the program.

Alli Stromberger, a sophomore at Caliche High School, made history at the 2020 stock show. Her grand champion hog, which weighed 279 pounds, sold for $100,000 to Transwest Trucks, Inc. in the auction of junior livestock champions. That beat last year’s sale by $30,000 and set a new record.
