A man affiliated with the Upper Republican Natural Resources District, headquartered in Imperial, Nebraska, earned a big honor from the Nebraska Association of Natural Resources Districts the past year.

One of the organization’s top awards was given, posthumously, to Eugene “Gene” Haarberg, who was chosen a 2020 Hall of Fame inductee.

Haarberg of Imperial, who died in 2014, was among the first URNRD board members when it organized in 1972, and was one of three new inductees into the NARD’s Hall of Fame in 2020.

Haarberg’s award recognizes current or former NRD board members. Other 2020 Hall of Fame inductees came from employees and organization supporters.

Haarberg, who farmed in Imperial and Chase County, was nominated by the URNRD staff. He was lauded during his lifetime for service on the URNRD board of directors from the district’s inception in 1972 until the year 2000.
