Jennifer Cano, RN, BSN, was recently announced as the director of nursing at Melissa Memorial Hospital.

She will be utilizing 20-plus years of nursing experience in her new role.

Cano took on the interim DON position in January, adding those duties to her job as the director of quality and risk, infection preventionist and employee health nurse.

After graduating from Holyoke High School in 1996, Cano worked as a certified nursing assistant and emergency medical technician. She became a licensed practical nurse after attending Northeastern Junior College and a registered nurse after attending Morgan Community College. Cano earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Grand Canyon University in 2017 and has plans to earn a master’s as well.

MMH CEO Cathy Harshbarger said the hospital will be hiring to fill the roles Cano will be leaving.

Members of the East Phillips County Hospital District Board of Directors congratulated Cano at the start of its regular meeting Tuesday, April 27.
