Bid for Pavilion accepted

At the Dec. 29 meeting of the Phillips County Board of Commissioners, activity from the month of December was reported, including several updates to the Pavilion and Education Center project.
The board has agreed to retain Matt Brasby as the County’s project manager for the project. Commissioners also held a special meeting Dec. 15 to open bids from vendors to supply the building materials for the project. Thirteen bids were received.
With Brasby, they reviewed all the bids and accepted the lowest responsive bidder. Maverick Steel of Byers submitted a price of $615,057, which included all options in the bid package. The County is working to approve a contract.
Also pushing the Pavilion project onward is a $7,500 grant from the Anschutz Family Foundation.

Personnel changes made
Phillips County Sheriff Thom Elliott reported that victims’ advocate Kay Schmidt has submitted her resignation. A short-term contract with Vicki Freemeyer was approved to cover the victims’ advocate needs, and Kelley Sullivan was hired to fill the position.
Elliott also requested that deputy William “J.R.” Myers be moved to the undersheriff position. Commissioners approved the change, effective Dec. 15.
Monica Ramirez has also been hired for the Department of Human Services position of child support services legal technician, effective Dec. 11.

Vehicles sold
Last month, the board also advertised two vehicles for sale by sealed bid. They accepted the high bid of $601 for a 1990 Ford pickup from Juan Bazan, as well as the high bid of $1,550 from Randy Schafer for a 1999 Dodge Caravan.
Commissioners also opted to sell three county assets through BigIron auctions. They are a 1998 and a 2006 International truck, as well as a John Deere 950 with accessories.
