Dragons split doubleheader in Wiggins

On Tuesday, May 9, the Holyoke High School baseball team traveled to Wiggins to face the Tigers. The teams ended up splitting the doubleheader, with Holyoke winning the first game 10-3 and Wiggins winning the next 15-3 in four and a half innings.

“We had a really strong Game 1,” said coach Jimmy French. “Game 2, they started their best pitcher and we definitely didn’t adjust as well as I would have hoped, but really the game came down to one bad inning that really sunk us.”

Holyoke 10, Wiggins 3

The Holyoke Dragons started off Tuesday’s first game with a run in the top of the first. On the defensive side, they held the Tigers scoreless. Back at bat in the second inning, the Dragons added four more runs and once again kept Wiggins from getting on the board.

Neither team scored in the third inning, so Holyoke maintained its 5-0 lead going into the fourth. The Tigers held the Dragons at 5 and finally managed to get on the board with one run in the bottom of the inning.

The fifth inning was another big one for the visiting team as Holyoke extended the lead to 9-1 and held onto it through the bottom of the inning. Back at bat in the sixth, the Dragons added one more run.
