Minnie Ruiz - December 27, 2012


Ysidra “Minnie” C. Ruiz, age 81, died Dec. 27, 2012. She was born to Manuel and Isabel Celaya on May 15, 1931 in San Vicente, Texas, one of 12 children.

Her family moved to Here­ford, Texas when she was a young girl. Minnie worked alongside her father in the fields as a driver for her father’s trucking business. They hauled beets, cabbage and onion from the fields. She loved working outside and had a green thumb. She was able to grow anything and everything.

During that time, she met and married Jesus “Jessie” de Leon Ruiz on Aug. 10, 1957 at St. Jose Catholic Church in Hereford. To this union, six children were born: Isabel Coria of Amarillo, Texas, Estella Dominguez and husband Oscar of Holyoke, Yolanda Wittman and husband Richard of Holyoke, Sandy Ruiz and husband Manuel of Amarillo, Texas, Jessie Ruiz Jr. and wife Olga of Holyoke and Joe Ruiz and wife Stefanie of Fort Worth, Texas.

The Ruiz family arrived in Holyoke during a snowstorm in 1969. They lived on a farm east of Holyoke until moving into town.

Minnie was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ramon Celaya and Savas Celaya; sisters, Miximina Galindo, Candelaria Celaya, Lupe Galan and Josie Martinez.

Minnie is survived by her husband and children; 12 grandchildren, Ramon, Alberto, Valerie, Robert, Christy, Tiffany, Rick, Jennifer, Jazzman, Michael, Jessica and Mark; and 13 great-grandchildren, Raheem, Stephanie, Cesar, Marisela, Kaitlyn, Marina, Alejandra, Victoria, Aidyn, Alex, Pedro Jr., Taytum and Tyson.

Minnie served her Lord as a Guadalupana and Crusillista for many years. She will always be remembered for her homemade flour tortillas and pinto beans. She would always greet her family and many friends with a smile and a big hug and kiss. She was a dedicated wife and loving mother. She will be greatly missed by all.

The funeral Mass was held at St. Patrick Catholic Church on Dec. 31, 2012. Father William Jungmann officiated.

Baucke Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
