Florence Pfau - November 17, 2012


Florence (Milan) Pfau, age 93, of Holyoke, died Nov. 17, 2012. She had been residing at Miller Memorial Care Center in Chappell, Neb. since May of 2008. She was born April 3, 1919 in Cheyenne, Wyo., the daughter of Edward J. and Agnes (Brady) Milan.

She was the third child in a family of nine. They moved to Denver when she was quite young and she spent her childhood days in the Denver area, graduating in 1938 from St. Francis De Sales Catholic School. This was during the war and she did not have the opportunity to obtain a further education.

She met Loren Pfau in 1938 and they were married Oct. 1, 1941 at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Denver. To this union a daughter, Helen Agnes, was born. They moved to Holyoke in 1945 to help with his parents’ farm due to his father’s failing health.

Florence and Loren had Cherub Home, a residence for mentally challenged children. This was a love for their life. After Loren’s death, she moved to Denver to the Garden of St. Elizabeth where she lived in the independent towers until she could not continue to live there due to her needs. She then moved to Miller Memorial Care Center in Chappell to be closer to her daughter and family.

She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church of Holyoke and the Altar & Rosary Society. She was one of the founding members of the Paragon Club, which she enjoyed until the time that she moved away.

Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Loren A. Pfau; parents, Edward and Agnes Milan; sisters, Rita Romanisk, Mary Agnes Foster and Theresa Ortner; brothers, Edward, Joseph and Leo Milan.

Florence is survived by her daughter, Helen Lechman and husband Lawrence of Sedgwick; grandchildren, Sharon and husband Mark Hoffman and Mari, Madeline and Brady Hoffman of Derby, Kan., Rick and Amy Lechman and Alicia of Sedgwick and Jacob of North Carolina, and Anthony and Amanda Lechman and Cassie, Kyerie, Tad, T.J. and Samantha of Julesburg; brothers, John Milan of Denver and Tommy Milan and wife Phyllis of Greeley; brother-in-law, Merle Pfau and wife Betty, Dale Pfau and wife Clover and Melvin Pfau and wife Linda; and numerous nieces and nephews.

There was no visitation. The rosary was scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 21 at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Holyoke. The Mass of Christian Burial was scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 21 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Holyoke. Final resting place will be at Holyoke Cemetery.
