|Haxtun grocery store dominates local news|
|Written by Holyoke Enterprise|
The necessity for a stocked and functioning grocery store continues to dominate news in Haxtun, and community folks are ready to move forward.
Wednesday evening, July 9, 15 individuals gathered at the Haxtun Community Center to listen to Walsh businessman/farmer Clarence Jones describe the plight of the Walsh Community Grocery Store, and how the store “came to be.”
Jones is president of the Walsh Community Grocery Store Corporation, and has been involved with the grocery store project in Walsh since the previous store closed in 2007.
Jones was thorough in his explanation of how they developed their corporation, obtained initial start-up funding, tapped into loan opportunities for store development, designed their store, determined what inventory they would need and finally, how they implemented their plan and got their grocery store open nine months after the project began.
Seven years later, the store continues to operate successfully, and within the next few years, it is anticipated that the shareholders will receive a dividend from their investment.
