Law enforcement in Phillips County gained another officer recently as Jeff Hickox has joined the ranks as deputy sheriff.

Hickox brings three seasons of state park seasonal ranger work to the table as he looks to continue along his law enforcement career with the Phillips County Sheriff’s Office. He officially began his tenure with the department at the beginning of July.

Born and raised in Colorado Springs, Hickox graduated from Coronado High School in 2001. He then attended Fort Lewis College in Durango before returning to Colorado Springs to attend the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs. There he earned a degree in geography and environmental studies.

Upon graduating from college, Hickox worked as a park ranger at three state parks, two in the Denver area and one in Eagle. In 2011 he graduated from the police academy at Arapahoe Community College in Littleton.

“It sounds kind of cliche, but I just want to help people,” Hickox said of why he first became interested in law enforcement. “I want to be part of the community. I think it’s a cool thing to get out there and talk to people, see what’s going on in their lives and see what kind of activities they’re doing. Hopefully I can help them be safe and make their day a little brighter.”
