Hwy 23 might get bumped up on improvement schedule PDF Print E-mail

“We’re getting closer” to much-needed updates on Highway 23, reported Phillips County Commissioner Don Lock at the month-end county meeting Monday, June 30.

Commissioners have received complaints for the Colorado Department of Transportation from local businesses Scholl Oil & Transportation and Grainland Co-op regarding the poor condition of the highway running northeast from Holyoke through Amherst.

According to Lock, CDOT keeps moving up the potential date of the improvements. “If money comes through, they might start this year,” said Lock. But he’s not going to hold his breath.

One project that is moving forward in Phillips County is a new building at the fairgrounds. The committee working on the project is expecting a second set of drawings from the Department of Local Affairs Technical Assistance Program, headed by Mike Tupa.

They already reviewed one set of drawings and were not satisfied with the proposed plans for a fairgrounds building.

The same DOLA group is assisting the county with a feasibility study for an industrial park northeast of Holyoke at the site of the new Grainland Co-op shuttle loader train loop.
