Stripe rust

There have been a couple of reports of stripe rust in northeast Colorado recently. Experts at CSU have said that this is not really unexpected, given the recent relatively cool, wet weather but that the outbreak appears to be very localized. It was also noted that if rust increases after flowering, it is doesn’t typically cause yield loss.

Stripe rust is caused by the fungus Puccinia striiformis and was once rare in this area but has changed and become more resistant to a variety of temperatures, allowing it to become more prevalent.
