Holyoke students in grades 4-8 completed a three week Arts Where You Are class Tuesday, July 14. Arts Where You Are is an annual event held in both Holyoke and Haxtun. Holyoke Junior High teacher Nancy Dee taught this year’s class, themed ‘Putting Things into Perspective,’ sponsored by the Phillips County Arts Council, and made possible by student fees and a generous grant from Golden Plains Recreation Center.

Each week students added new information to their knowledge of perspective, starting with the necessary vocabulary. Dee shared a power point presentation on the basics of perspective and where it can be witnessed wherever they are. Students practiced drawing one-point perspective rooms, and finished the class by drawing various buildings around Holyoke, showing there really is art where they are. To complete their buildings, students added colored tissue paper for texture and color. Students are encouraged to share their completed work at the Phillips County Fair. Dee’s hope is that Arts Where You Are will give students the ability to see with ‘new eyes,’ noticing perspective around them every day.
