|Councilmembers take oath of office|

Holyoke City Councilmembers Brian Akey, J.C. Peckham and Steve Moore were sworn into office at the Tuesday, April 15 meeting.
All three incumbents were granted another four-year term as their bids for council seats were unopposed. Councilmember Kevin Scott was also selected to remain as mayor pro tem.

Action taken on 2 ordinances
Two ordinances were introduced and approved on the first reading at Tuesday’s meeting. One ordinance addresses limitations to open burns within city limits, and the other adds language to an existing municipal code that restricts the size and location of signs in town.
The first ordinance establishes open burning regulations in the City of Holyoke.The ordinance makes it unlawful for any person to burn any sweeping, trash, lumber, leaves, straw, papers, grass or other combustible material in any street, alley, yard or on any lot within city limits without a permit.
