After three away trips to start the season, the Dragon baseball team hosted Merino Monday, April 7 for the Holyoke home opener. The two teams were neck-and-neck in each match as just one run decided the outcome in both games.
For the second time this season, HHS was taken down in extra innings, losing the first game 7-8 in 10 innings of action. Holyoke evened the series with a 9-8 victory in the second game.
Holyoke 7, Merino 8
After three lead changes through seven innings, the first game of the doubleheader entered extra innings with the two teams knotted at 7 runs each. Unfortunately for the Dragons, Merino was able to sneak one runner across home in the 10th inning to best Holyoke by one run.
Merino quickly mounted a 2-0 lead in the first frame. After the first two batters reached base on balls, the fourth Ram to step into the batters box batted in two runs with a single to right field. Three batters later, Merino picked up another two-run single to push the Ram lead to 4-0.
