Phillips County Relay for Life was recently awarded the Gordy Klatt Power of Hope Award.
The award is given to the top county nationwide with the highest per capita number of total registered survivors participating in all events in the country based on the county population and the number of survivors.
Event chair Abby Henry said the award was a surprise, but she was excited and proud that Phillips County was recognized as one of the top counties in the country.
Out of 152 registered cancer survivors in the county, 57 participated in events in 2013.Currently the award is on display at the Haxtun Town Hall.
