Super Bowl show lives up to hype, despite disappointing outcome PDF Print E-mail

Among the masses of football fanatics, Gentry Lock was one of the roughly 80,000 people that were lucky enough to be in attendance for Super Bowl XLVIII Sunday, Feb. 2.

Lock, a 2001 HHS grad, made her way to the big game in New Jersey from her home in Long Island City, N.Y. Luckily for Lock, who was rooting for the Denver Broncos, the event was more than just another football game.

“The game was terrible, but the whole experience was awesome,” Lock said.

While the Broncos may have been completely manhandled from the first play of the game, the weather was better than expected and pregame attractions and halftime shows lived up to the hype in Lock’s eyes.

Super Bowl activities hit the New York/New Jersey region long before the opening kickoff Sunday night. For four days leading up to game night, Super Bowl Boulevard, on Broadway from 34th-47th streets, hosted a slew of activities ranging from shopping opportunities and player autograph sessions, toboggan runs and chances to take a picture with the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
