Family members of former HHS coaches Larry Stroh and Bart Brown were invited to the Jan. 23 Memorial Wrestling Dual in Holyoke.
The following was read for their introduction prior to the dual action.
“Our purpose here tonight is to honor and remember two outstanding and dedicated wrestling coaches. Through their tireless efforts and the love of the sport, they molded many Holyoke wrestlers—not only into consistent state contenders, but outstanding young men.
“Bart Brown grew up near Vernon and wrestled for Wray under coach Bob Smith. After wrestling for UNC, Bart returned home to farm with his father, Dwight. Steve Millage approached Bart, at the age of 23, to coach the junior high wrestling team in Holyoke in 1994. In 1995, he coached the junior high and high school wrestling teams. And in 1998, Bart coached the first Holyoke state champion in 41 years.
