Holyoke fourth-grader Kristin Vieselmeyer took top honors as the winner of the Family Community Education “Character Counts!” essay and artwork contest.
FCE members Beverly Townsend and Wilma Halbert made a trip to Holyoke Elementary School last week to announce the winners, and distribute a classic book to all of those who participated.
Vieselmeyer was awarded a cash prize for her essay and artwork, which are now sent to the state level to compete with fourth-graders from all over Colorado.
Wendy Favela took second-place honors and Jessie Bornhoft from Haxtun placed third.
Promoting ethics through the “Six Pillars of Character” is one of the primary goals of the essay and artwork contest. Respect was the theme for 2014.
The contest encourages students to improve their writing and drawing skills while creating public awareness in the achievement of students.
