Lamm works to make 100-year-old home a more inviting hair salon PDF Print E-mail

While Maddie’s Shear Magic serves as one of a handful of salons in Phillips County, owner Madelaine Lamm has spent nearly four years making the business feel like a home.

Referring to the shop as her “little slice of heaven,” when not helping customers, Lamm has used her passion for woodworking projects to bring life to the century-old building.

What started as updating some of the wood furnishing on the inside of the house led to outdoor projects that added to the character of the charming house located on the north edge of town.

When she took over the building in 2009, Lamm said it looked like nobody had taken care of the 90-plus-year-old structure.

Utilizing decorations from friends, Lamm aimed to make the inside of the building as inviting as possible, shooting more for a home atmosphere than that of a business. With her father, Richard McCallum, providing handmade wooden cars and train toys, parents can bring their youngsters along for an afternoon at the salon.
