With a 35-12 victory in Wiggins, the HHS football team snapped their three-game slump to improve to 5-3 Friday, Oct. 18.
The win keeps Holyoke’s playoff hopes alive for another week. A win Friday, Oct. 25 over Wray will give the Dragons a playoff bid while a loss will end the HHS season. Friday’s action will kick off at 6:30 p.m.
Holyoke wasted little time before taking the lead Friday night. After giving up just one yard to the Tigers in the game’s opening drive, the Dragons went on the attack.
It took just five plays for HHS to reach paydirt as quarterback Trevor Dalton and Tito Fierro connected on a quick slant for a 30-yard touchdown. Marvin Gardea sent the PAT through the uprights for the early 7-0 lead.
Dalton came up big on the ensuing defensive stand as he picked off a Wiggins pass.
Facing a long third down, the Dragons were able to utilize the turnover as Dalton hit wide receiver Logan Tharp in stride, crossing the goal line for a 54-yard touchdown. Gardea knocked in the PAT as Holyoke went up 14-0 with 5:28 remaining in the first quarter.
HHS came into the game completing just one of 26 pass attempts for 38 yards in the past two games, but racked up 127 yards and two touchdowns Friday as Dalton completed three of the five attempts on the night.
