Ballots for the Nov. 5 election have been mailed to all active registered voters in Phillips County, reported County Clerk and Recorder Beth Zilla.
If anyone did not receive a ballot and believes they should have, they should contact Zilla at the courthouse.
Drop-off locations for those ballots are the Phillips County clerk’s office in Holyoke and the Haxtun Town Hall.
Ballots must be returned to one of those locations by 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5 in order to be counted.
Zilla emphasized that the ballots may be returned by mail, but they must be received at the county clerk’s office by Election Day in order to be counted—not postmarked by Nov. 5 but actually received by Nov. 5, said Zilla.
Ballots can be turned in to either office during regular workday hours.
Both the county clerk’s office and the Haxtun town office will be open Saturday, Nov. 2 from 8 a.m.-noon for ballot returns only.
Additionally, the offices will be open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5. Zilla said the county clerk’s office will do regular business only during normal business hours from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. The rest of the open hours will be devoted to election business.
Ballot questions reviewed
All Colorado voters will receive the state ballot involving two questions—Amendment 66 and Proposition AA.
Amendment 66 involves funding for public schools, and Proposition AA deals with retail marijuana taxes.
Phillips County voters will be answering the question pertaining to whether to pursue becoming the 51st state.
City of Holyoke voters will have two other ballot questions. One relates to whether there should be term limits for city-elected officials. The second question asks for authorization to impose a lodging tax of up to 5 percent.
Haxtun School District Re-2J has placed a bond issue on the ballot, as well as a candidate election.
Voters in Haxtun Rural Fire Protection District will be voting on Referendum 4A, a mill levy election.
