Holyoke’s volleyball team put in some time on the court over the weekend with a match in Burlington Friday, Oct. 11 and a tournament in St. Francis, Kan., Saturday, Oct. 12. Holyoke has just two matches left in the regular season.
HHS jumped into action Friday in Burlington by sweeping the home team in three sets, winning 26-24, 25-13 and 25-12.
A mixup before the first game resulted in the Lady Dragons entering the match without any time to practice serving, which coach Michelle Vieselmeyer said was obvious at the start of the first game as Holyoke committed five serving errors right off the bat.
Through Holyoke’s early missteps, Burlington was able to build an 11-6 lead. The Lady Cougars clung to the lead for most of the game, eventually going up 24-17.
Facing a first-set loss, the Lady Dragons were up for the challenge at 18-24. Audi Peña was clutch for HHS as she led the Holyoke comeback by serving the final eight straight points, five of which fell for aces, as the Lady Dragons came from behind to take the first set 26-24.
