With a 7-12 record, the HHS softball team finished its season at the end of regular-season play Saturday, Oct. 5 when they traveled to Akron for a 16-17 loss and a 16-9 win in the doubleheader.

The Dragons did not qualify for regional play.

From the Akron outing Saturday, coach Ashley Clayton said it was nice to see the girls play well on both sides of the ball. “They worked hard to score runs and continued to be very disciplined runners,” she added.

Coach Clayton acknowledged it was great to see the girls end their season with a hard-fought win.

With a flashy seventh-inning drive, the Dragons came back strong in Saturday’s opener at Akron. But the Rams prevailed for the one-point win, 17-16.

Akron scored two runs in each of the first two innings, while the Dragons crossed home plate once in the second for a 4-1 Ram lead.

Three Dragon runs in the top of the third tied the game at 4-all, but Akron pounded four more in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead.
