Book on the horizon for local pastor Gordon Penfold PDF Print E-mail
Written by Darci Tomky

Characteristics of turnaround pastors is the topic of a new book in the works—a book that will be beneficial to pastors, denominational leaders, seminaries and more.

This is the first endeavor of this kind for local Pastor Gordon Penfold, D. Min., who is partnering with veteran writer Dr. Aubrey Malphurs, Ph.D., a professor at Dallas Theological Seminary.

Pastor Gordon Penfold is currently working on a
book about church revitalization and the leadership
characteristics of pastors who contribute to a church’s growth.

Penfold first began studying the subject four and a half years ago in January 2009 for his doctorate dissertation, “Characteristics of Turnaround Pastors among Evangelical Churches in the Rocky Mountain States.” He earned his Doctor of Ministry degree from Biola University, Talbot School of Theology in May 2011.

That led him to a presentation on the topic at the November 2011 Great Commission Research Network conference. He said before he was even done with his presentation, the room was alive with questions as others agreed this was an important topic that hadn’t been thoroughly studied before.

Malphurs, who is involved in ministry and has authored books about leadership and church revitalization, approached Penfold about writing a book together.
