School’s DAAC accomplishes much, seeks 3 new members PDF Print E-mail
Written by Brenda Johnson Brandt

District Accountability Advisory Committee members for Holyoke School District Re-1J focus on accomplishment. They’re given specific tasks by the school board each year, and their input has proven valuable.

Superintendent Bret Miles said he and the Board of Education hope to continue to have a DAAC group they can give meaty projects to. The DAAC perspective is valued on complex issues.

An 11-member committee, the DAAC is currently in need of three parent members—two with elementary school children and one with a child in the JR/SR high. One term on the DAAC is three years.

The group meets on the third Tuesday of each month from 5-6 p.m., and Miles said they’re good about keeping the meetings within the one hour.

He emphasized that the DAAC meetings are always open. Any parent or community member is welcome to attend. However, if a vote is taken, then only the official elected members would vote. Typically, the committee takes a consensus, using the opinions obtained from staff within the school buildings.

Miles hopes to hear from those interested in serving in the next couple of weeks so that they can get an agenda at least a week ahead of the Tuesday, Oct. 15 meeting.
