In game two at Burlington Saturday, Aug. 31, the Lady Dragons came back from a 0-9 first-inning deficit to take the lead in the fifth.
While the game ended in a 15-16 loss for HHS, the comeback effort showed great character.
Holyoke went 0-2 in its season opening outing at Burlington. The Cougars took a whopping 16-1 win in three innings in the first game but pushed it to a full seven-inning game to win the second by one point.
Coach Ashley Clayton noted the girls had a rough go the first game as they quickly got behind in the second inning and were unable to rally back.
She acknowledged that a bit of first-game jitters may have been to blame, as they began to show the competitive team they are as the day progressed.
“For them to come back the second game and fight back from behind like they did shows a lot of character,” said Clayton. She added that they have worked very hard at practice to do things the right way, and that began to show in the second game at Burlington.
