Holyoke’s local FCCLA chapter kicked off the new school year with the 2013 Chapter Leadership Workshop Tuesday, Aug. 20 at the city park.
Family, Career and Community Leaders of America at Holyoke High School is advised by Karen Ortner and led by an elected officer team.
The 2013-2014 officer team began the workshop by reciting the FCCLA creed. President Brenda Hernandez welcomed the 21 students in attendance.
Historian Rubi Canales coordinated a competitive icebreaker in which students gripped hands with one another across a circle and worked together to untangle themselves from one another to form an empty circle.
The workshop continued with an explanation of “What is FCCLA?” by vice president Megan Vieselmeyer. The answer to the particular question is that FCCLA is an extracurricular organization which helps students to be involved in the community and to focus on learning about family, career and community-related improvements.
