|HHS football looks to place atop league standings|

Last season the Holyoke High School football program was in a bit of a transitional year as first-year Holyoke head coach John Zilla brought a new style of play to the team.
This year, Zilla believes one of the team’s biggest advantages is their familiarity with the program and their understanding of coaches’ expectations.
HHS letterwinners returning for the 2013 football season are pictured from left, front row, Logan Tharp, Ryan Parker, Ryan Krogmeier, Saul Ramos, Andrew Kent and Alan Madrid; second row, Morgan Golden, Tito Fierro, Wyatt Powell, Dylan Kotch and Jesus Martinez; third row, Tanner Smith, Eric Rojo, Taylor Mayden, Luke Stewart and Bradley Cumming; and back row, Trevor Dalton, Cody Lamm, T.J. Gertner and Marques Harvey.
With close to half of the team getting time at the varsity level last season and losing only four starters on both sides of the ball to graduation, the Dragons are loaded with experience as they enter the 2013 season.
Zilla said all of the seniors on the squad have been taking it upon themselves to be leaders on the team. He said he has seen seniors step up before, but having all of them take on a more prominent role is a positive move for the team.
Participation is also moving in the right direction as this year’s Dragon squad consists of 42 players, up 13 from the final roster count of the 2012 season.
