Enterprise asks for early copy
Because of the Labor Day holiday Monday, Sept. 2, staff members at The Holyoke Enterprise would appreciate having information for news stories and advertisements for the next issue by Friday, Aug. 30.
No school Mon.
There will be no school in Holyoke Monday, Sept. 2 due to the Labor Day holiday.
2 candidates have filed for 3 school board openings
Friday, Aug. 30 is the deadline for submitting a nomination petition to be a candidate for the Nov. 5 election for the Holyoke Re-1J Board of Education.
As of Monday, Aug. 26, only two petitions had been returned for incumbents Kris Camblin and Kim Killin. The third open seat is being vacated by Jeff Tharp who is term-limited after eight years of service.
While 4 p.m. Friday is the deadline for submitting nomination petitions at the school administration office, the 25 signatures have to be verified. It is recommended that petitions be submitted by 1 p.m. Friday. Petitions may also be picked up at the administration office.
HVFD responds to 2 incidents
Holyoke Volunteer Fire Department was called to duty twice over the weekend. The first siren rang out Saturday, Aug. 24 at 7:25 a.m. due to a cement truck rollover at the intersection of Highway 6 and Phillips County Road 41. No extrication was needed, and the fire department assisted the EMS and helped with traffic control.
The second siren sounded Sunday afternoon, Aug. 25 at 2 p.m. There was a gas leak in the 200 block of South Coleman Avenue caused from a gas pole being accidentally removed from a resident’s backyard.
