|HHS golf season now in full swing|
|Written by Kyle Arnoldy|
With just three days to practice before the first tournament of the season, the Holyoke Dragons reported to the Holyoke Golf Course for the first day of boys’ golf practice Monday, Aug. 5.
With a roster of 14 participants, head coach Stefan Betley said the turnout was bigger than he had expected.
Betley said the first week of practice will be used to evaluate what skills need to be fine-tuned and what adjustments need to be made as he works with a handful of kids he hasn’t seen play before.
With the new season on the horizon, Betley said he hopes to qualify at least one golfer for the state tournament this year.
Returning letterwinners for Holyoke include senior Gage Garnas and junior Kody Timm. Garnas joins the Dragons from Julesburg.

Others on the team include seniors Wyatt Bishop of Holyoke and Gabriel Marner of Haxtun; juniors A.J. Brandt and Tory Brown of Holyoke, Devin Wilber of Julesburg and Kade Hiller of Haxtun; sophomores Dakota Gipson, Austin Vieselmeyer and Tyler Loutensock of Holyoke; and freshmen Erick Zink and Tristan Sullivan of Holyoke and Daniel Swisher of Wray.
The boys will tee off Thursday, Aug. 8 in Brush at 12:45 p.m. for the first tournament of the year.
After serving as an assistant coach on the team for the past two years, Betley is entering his first year as the head coach. As of Monday, Aug. 5, the boys’ golf team is without any assistant coaches. Any person interested in helping the team is encouraged to contact Sandy Rahe or Betley at HHS at 854-2284.
