Haxtun’s Old-Fashioned Saturday Night is Saturday, July 20, with new and returning favorites.
Nineteen locations are on the map for townwide garage sales to kick the day off at 8 a.m. The sales are slated to last until at least noon.
Bikers and riders alike are invited to ride in the 11th annual Haxtun Volunteer Fire Department’s Poker Run organized by the Boy Scouts.
The route starts in Haxtun with registration at 9 a.m. Poker run participants will head toward Holyoke, then up to Julesburg with stops in Sedgwick, Crook and Fleming before the last card is pulled at the Haxtun American Legion at 4 p.m.
Registration takes place at the Haxtun Fire Hall. Money raised during the poker run will benefit the local Boy Scout troop. Plans are to use the money to help certify each Boy Scout in CPR and first aid.
New this year is the Haxtun Hospital District-sponsored Kids’ Choice Dash and Dive set for 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Similar to a mini track meet, children of all ages can participate in events like the 100-meter dash, tire roll, shot put, long jump and more.
Participants are encouraged to take a towel and extra set of clothes for the final event. Registration begins at 11 a.m. at Adam Wernsman football field, and parents must accompany children to sign a waiver. The event also includes a free hot dog lunch for attendees. Prizes will be awarded to all participants and special awards will be given.
Car show registration begins on main street at 3 p.m. and runs until 5 p.m. Free registration for the car show has been extended through Friday, July 19. Divisions of the show include the usual muscle car, street rod, late model, classic, antique, pickup, motorcycle, vintage motorcycle and 18 and under.
Two new divisions this year are work-in-progress and specialty/dragster/rat rods.
To register, contact Laurie Koellner at 520-4866 or visit www.haxtunchamber.org and look for the form under Old-Fashioned Saturday information under the Events tab. The car show awards presentation will take place at 7 p.m.
Live entertainment from The Countdowns begins on main street at 4 p.m. The live band consists of five members from across Nebraska who play a variety of music.
Beginning at 5 p.m. the Haxtun firemen plan to host a hog roast at the fire hall. The freewill offering dinner runs until 7 p.m.
While downtown, spectators can watch cars, pickups and other utility vehicles burn rubber during the burnout competition at 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of Strohm Street and Colorado Avenue.
The downtown events wrap up with cruising main street followed by a dance at the Haxtun American Legion beginning at 9 p.m.
Other attractions throughout out the day include a car wash and dunk tank sponsored by the Haxtun High School cheerleaders and local vendors.
