50 fun things to do in Holyoke—round 2

Last year I gave you all a challenge that there are actually fun things to do in Holyoke. Fifty fun things to be exact.

And before you start moaning and groaning again that you and your kids are getting bored this summer and that there’s never anything to do around here, keep reading. Team Enterprise has fine-tuned this list of ANOTHER 50 things to do in Holyoke this summer.

Let the countdown begin!

50. Play soccer on the turf field at Homesteaders Park.

49. De-clutter your house and make some extra money with a garage sale.

48. Mentor a child for his or her 4-H project.

47. Go mutton bustin’ at a rodeo.

45. Detassle corn.

44. Go muddin’.

43. Start up a side business with your favorite hobby.

42. Get together with the ladies for a sewing bee.

41. Play extreme hide and seek—first one from the tennis courts to the skate park without getting caught, wins!

40. Play ghost in the graveyard.

39. Browse the archives at the Enterprise office. We have almost every newspaper for over a century, and I’m sure you can find some embarrassing pictures of someone you know!

38. Try a new haircut or color at a local salon.

37. Check out the laid-back Vintage Faith and Worship church service on Saturday nights at the Baptist Church.

36. Find a big tarp and a sprinkler for a homemade Slip ’n Slide.

35. Get all your musician friends together for a jam session in someone’s basement or garage.

33. Play catch with a little buddy.

32. Take flowers to the cemetery.

31. Make a splash at the Holyoke Swimming Pool water exercise classes.

30. Perfect your skills at one of the sports camps this summer.

29. Take your sweetheart to the old-fashioned movie night on the Heginbotham Library lawn.

28. If you have small children, attend the Moms & Tots Playgroup with Baby Bear Hugs on Thursdays at the city park.

27. Rent the Peerless Theatre for a private movie party.

26. Plan a guided hunting trip at Newman Adventures southwest of Holyoke.

25. Buy a pass to the HHS weight room and pump some iron!

24. Rent the Camp Machasay facilities northeast of Holyoke for a retreat. Or your kids can attend one of their summer camps filled with horseback riding, ATVs and more.

23. Grab a video camera or smartphone and shoot some original footage for a YouTube video of Holyoke.

22. Send your friends on a photo scavenger hunt around town or use some fun props for a photo shoot.

21. Set up a booth to sell crops from your garden or field.

20. Buy a house to fix up and flip. Or keep it as a rental.

19. Visit the historic fireplace at the Burge Hotel.

18. Grab your binoculars and go bird watching.

17. Shop local for a new paint color or updated home décor accessories and rearrange your furniture for a fresh new look.

16. Check out a cookbook or craft idea book from the library.

10. Make a reservation for fine dining at Ballyneal Golf Club.

9. Fly a kite ... there’s plenty of wind around here!

8. Throw a vintage-themed backyard BBQ and movie night. I’m thinkin’ mason jars, old-fashioned soda bottles, popcorn, picnic baskets and burlap banners.

7. Set up a hidden camera and pull some Candid Camera pranks.

6. Take a special someone out for a night on the town.

5. Organize a Friday Lunch Bunch with your friends or coworkers and try a different restaurant each week.

4. Adopt a kitty or puppy.

3. Put together a float for the Phillips County Fair Parade. This year’s theme is “There’s Country in the Air at the Phillips County Fair.”

2. Try every flavor of coffee at Heidi’s Coffee and Bake Shop.

And the number one thing to do in Holyoke is still ...

1. Eat a ballpark burger.

And who ever said there’s nothing to do in Holyoke?!
