Zion Lutheran Church will celebrate its 100th anniversary on Sunday, June 29.

After receiving final approval from the USDA to plant biopharmaceutical corn in Phillips County, officials from Meristem Therapeutics announced last week that they have decided not to plant their crops this year.
Body Works, a circuit training fitness center and spa, will be opening June 30 at 136 N. Interocean. Body Works is owned by Jesse Larson, Sammi Barlow and Staci Tempel, all of Haxtun.
A request from Seaboard Farms to increase the headcount at its Phillips County sites will be denied if the county commissioners accept a recommendation from the Board of Adjustments.

A weekend filled with centennial fun is planned at the Phillips County Fairgrounds in Holyoke July 2-4, including Centennial Motorsport Spectacular, stock car races, a truck and tractor pull, square dancing, contests and races for all ages, box social, community union service, parade, free hot dog supper and a one-hour fireworks show.

D.E. Steger, president and chief executive officer of AgriChem, Inc., has announced AgriChem’s purchase of Wycon Chemical Company, including the agricultural service plant in Holyoke.
Hot, strong, drying winds occurring during the past week caused some damage to fields of winter wheat, small corn, sugar beets and dry beans. Approximately 120 acres of sugar beets were lost due to wind damage.

The opening of a part-time field office in Holyoke has been announced by the Sterling Production Credit Association. The office, located in the basement of the Brewer building at the southeast corner of the main intersection, offers crop, livestock and equipment loans.
Gordon Young, a 270-pound bachelor from Thousand Oaks, Calif., stopped briefly yesterday morning at the Chamber of Commerce office as he passed through Holyoke on an 8,000-mile trip to the East Coast—by bicycle.
Holyoke Postmaster F.B. Flanagan has announced that Holyoke’s new ZIP code number is 80734. The ZIP code, the Post Office department’s revolutionary new system of improved mail dispatch and delivery, will go into effect nationally on July 1.
