|Bailey remembered with new church doors|
|Written by Holyoke Enterprise|
The Seventh Day Adventist Church, at the intersection of Baxter Avenue and Gordon Street, recently welcomed new doors in remembrance of Ray Bailey. Carpenter Phil Wirges, at left, and Ray’s wife Phyllis Bailey, are pictured with the new doors, which were finished last month. Ray died in 2010, and Phyllis said the church doors were one of the projects at the church that Ray never got to finish.
The Baileys served as missionaries overseas in Korea and the Philippines, and Ray was a Seventh Day Adventist pastor for 40 years before he retired and the couple moved to Holyoke in 2003. Phyllis’ family has longstanding ties to this church. She said she grew up attending the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Holyoke, and her dad Clarence Kuhnke even helped build the church facility. —Enterprise photo
