The latest Northwest Kansas Swim League swim meet, held in Oakley, Kan. Saturday, June 15, resulted in one new record for the Holyoke Swim Club.
Erin Vieselmeyer secured a first-place finish and holds the new record in the 15-18 girls’ 100 yd. backstroke event.
The record was previously set by Becky Lang in 2003 with a time of 1:10.16. Vieselmeyer broke the record with a time of 1:09.72.
The team of 28 competitors also performed well, totaling 165 points for a third-place finish.
Goodland, Kan. won the meet with 307 points followed by Colby, Kan. 228, Holyoke 165, Wray 162, Oberlin, Kan. 160.5, Burlington 114, Oakley, Kan. 83.5 and Flagler 36.
The continued improvement of the 8 and under swimmers was noted by coach Brenda Krueger. Time cuts as large as 16 seconds were seen at Saturday’s meet.
Both Krueger and coach Adria Colver were thankful for the warm weather present on Saturday, as were the swimmers.
Colver commented that swimmers held their races together, despite being tired. Many swimmers wee gone with various activities, but the team still performed well.
