Marissa Smith, a junior at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, wrapped up her track season at the Mountain West Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 8-11 in Las Vegas, Nev.
Smith was one of 25 girls and 23 boys from CSU selected to go to the championships.
She ran on the women’s 4x100-meter relay team, which came in ninth place, posting a time of :48.10. At the last minute, the lead leg in the relay had to be switched due to an injury. Unfortunately, the new runner had not worked with the team on handoffs, etc.
During the season, Smith was also a part of the 4x400-meter relay team, and although she did not run with them during the Mountain West Championships, the relay took eighth place, finishing in 3:49.18.
CSU women totaled 89.5 points in the competition, earning third place behind San Diego State and New Mexico. The men racked up 165 points, putting them in second place, bested only by Air Force Academy.
Smith is a 2010 graduate of HHS and is the daughter of Dave and Rhonda Smith of Holyoke. At CSU, she is studying health and exercise science with an emphasis in health promotion and a minor in business administration.
