|HHS track team sets sights on state meet|

Holyoke’s track and field athletes hit stride last week as many Dragons placed at the Bill Kalb Invitational in Yuma Thursday, April 25 and at the Dick Evans Invitational in Wray Saturday, April 27.
At the Yuma meet, the girls finished in 20th while the boys secured a 12th-place finish out of 23 teams in attendance.
Despite many athletes having to leave early to prepare for Prom Saturday, the boys bested every other team for a first-place finish while the ladies ended the day in seventh place at the Wray meet.
Dragon jumpers performed admirably as four boys and two girls earned a top-eight finish in Wray.
With weather finally cooperating with the spring sports schedule, coach Luke Thomas said the team has been able to work on the little things that have been overlooked due to practicing in the gym. Runners have been able to practice starts and jumpers have been able to get in pit time at the track.
“It makes a world of difference being able to work outside,” Thomas said.
Thomas noted that with just a few meets left to qualify for state, athletes need to push themselves and continue to work hard if they want to compete at state May 16-18.
